Herring, Darren

Surrounded by a family of musicians, Mr. Herring was exposed to music from a very early age. Although his first chosen career path and studies were not in music, in 1998 he returned to college to study Vocal Performance at Murray State University. In 2001, he moved to the United Kingdom to continue his musical training, spending time as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Sunderland and in graduate studies at the University of Edinburgh. During his time in the United Kingdom, Mr. Herring was a featured soloist with multiple choral societies, and served as a lay clerk in the choir of St. Nicholas’ Cathedral, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He later served in the choir of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Mary, Edinburgh, where he contributed to several recordings and live BBC broadcasts.

Since returning to the United States, Darren has served as the Director of Music for two parishes and the Livingston County Youth Chorale. His vocal career has been spent singing with the Choir of Men and Boys at Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Festival Singers, the Indianapolis Baroque Singers and with the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit, where he served as the Vocal Coach, as well as Staff Singer.

Darren currently lives in Arizona and is actively involved in the Phoenix area choral community, singing with multiple groups, and church choirs. He is a sought after clinician, director, adjudicator, and composer. He has traveled and worked with choirs from around the world and is an expert in choir travel planning, tours, and arranging Anglican Cathedral residencies. Mr. Herring has been active in the Royal School of Church Music summer training programs and is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
