The Voluntary on “Rosedale” pays harmonic homage to one of Mr. Lind’s teachers, Leo Sowerby, who is also the composer of the tune “Rosedale.” Here one will find many of the typical Sowerby harmonies; this work is very approachable and fairly easy to read and learn. The registration is simple and very adaptable. The overal form is a crescendo to the end. The second voluntary on “Land of Rest” is a good addition to the repertory for this hymn tune. Again, it presents a growing crescendo to the end and some wonderful harmony that makes full use of the organ’s string stops.
