This setting of an Irish text is interesting in its development of the opening melody sung by a soprano. The verses for choir are homophonic in nature and the harmonies are straightforward, facilitating the learning process. Mr.Oliver has kept the voice parts mostly in the middle range, making text clear in expression. This haunting work would be appropriate for Lent as well as general use.
