Description
Three Choral Hymns
Gerald Near
These new settings of familiar hymn texts provide welcome alternatives to the tunes most often associated with them. In each there is a unison stanza or stanzas with accompaniment, followed by one or more stanzas designed for four-part singing. The last stanza is in unison with full accompaniment and descant. In “The King shall come…” there is also a fauxbourdon verse with melody in the tenor before the final descant verse. A one-page version of each hymn containing melody and text, is included, with permission, to copy for congregational use.
