David Urrows’ subtle use of harmonic color creates an exquisite sense of reflection for Edmund Spencer’s prayer of supplication and intercession. Choir and solo voice are undergirded by a colorful organ accompaniment. All performing forces are joined to build toward a powerful harmonic and rhythmic climax. Middle and upper vocal ranges are also employed to heighten the meaning of the text. This anthem will serve well throughout the entire church year.
