Description
This mellifluous setting of the famous text features a flowing accompaniment from the organ as well as lyrical writing for the voices. The text is set in Latin and David Halls, Organist and Choirmaster of Salisbury Cathedral, gives the music a poignant quality by mixing the major and minor modes in an ingenious way. He sets off the text, “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us, ” in a new key while the music highlights the prayerful quality of the text. The work concludes with four-part writing and a peaceful “Amen.” This is a fresh look at a classic text that appeals to choirs of all abilities.
