This is a lyrical yet moving setting of Psalm 51. Mr. Ferris’ years of experience in Gregorian chant are seen in the flowing chant-like lines and flexibility of tempo and rhythm. Choirs with limited resources will appreciate the three-part writing and the use of the middle range of all the voice parts. There are also several brief solos, placed in alternation with the full choir parts, adding a responsorial element. This anthem is appropriate for Lent or for any penitential season.
