Description
How Lovely are Thy Dwellings Fair
Franklin Ashdown
This stirring piece is in the style of a hymn-anthem yet with interesting variations of the theme in each verse. The text is John Milton’s paraphrase of Psalm 84 and is set to music of lyrical beauty with a strong rhythmic foundation. Each verse begins in unison and breaks into four parts of moderate range. Each verse modulates with an ever richer organ accompaniment and the piece concludes with a soaring “Amen.” This anthem will find much use as its demands are few for most church choirs.
