I Am the True Vine
Margaret Vardell Sandresky
I am the True Vine is taken from the Gospel of John, and is Margaret Sandresky’s setting, is given a lyricism and depth that brings out the strong promise of the text. Set in homophonic style, the piece is richly harmonized and remains in the center of the voice ranges with the exception of soaring phrases on the words, “that ye love one another.” The piece gives each voice opportunities to express the text in long phrases and the work ends in simplicity and quietude.
