- a penitential anthem based on a translation of a 17th century German text
- Lehman develops the opening melodic material (G natural minor) with subtle differences throughout
- a particularly lovely choice for Lent or Good Friday
From the Composer:
I wrote O sorrow deep on a very bright, sunny Spring day for my choir to sing at Passion Vespers at Christ Church, New Haven. The whole piece is the antithesis of what I was feeling and experiencing that beautiful day with new life burgeoning all around.
