Description
That Most Excellent Gift of Charity
Michael Sitton
This brief, yet heartfelt anthem uses a text of Thomas Cranmer for Quinquagesima Sunday. It tells us that “. . .our doing without charity are nothing worth.” This is an intimate piece, staying well within the middle range of the voices and expressing the text with lines of simple beauty and imagination. Works are often highlighted with a single voice and the harmonic language is mildly dissonant. This anthem would also make a lovely introit.
