Description

Where is this Stupendous Stranger?
Randall Giles

This text, from Christopher Smart, is set in hymn-anthem style. Under a solidly vital organ part, Dr. Giles provides an original hymn tune that is attractive in its lyricism. It is sung first by the men alone, then in an elegant four-part setting. The third verse has the altos taking the melody, with the other voices joining for the final verse, which ends peacefully. This is an imaginative addition to the hymn repertory and will become a favorite anthem at the Christmas season.
