A native of Texas, Samuel Porter received the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Organ Performance, Music Theory and Literature from Baylor University. The Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance was awarded by the University of Alabama. Dr. Porter has been a student of Miriam Griffis, John David Peterson and Warren Hutton. Master classes have been with Marilyn Mason, Peter Hurford, Marie Claire Alain, David Higgs and Gillian Weir. In addition, Dr. Porter holds three of the American Guild of Organists certificates: Service Playing, Colleague and Associate.
A church organist since the age of eleven, Dr. Porter has served churches in Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Idaho and Chattanooga, TN. Dr. Porter has more than thirty years of college level teaching experience and his students have been winners of local, state and regional competitions.
Dr. Porter has performed recitals throughout the United States, Europe and South America, appearing as recitalist, accompanist and assisting artist. He has served numerous in positions with local chapters of the American Guild of Organists. Dr. Porter is also a published author and composer.
