This popular hymn uses all six verses, with three employing the congregation; their music is on the back cover for duplication. A transposed trumpet part is not included; the trumpet only plays on the first and last verses. Several of the verses are in unison or two parts, and one is indicated for unaccompanied four-part choir. The music is majestic and not difficult, and will be appropriate for several special times throughout the church year.
The Diapason

This month’s array of new releases, mostly from our friends in Orleans, MA, begins with an entry in their Hymns of Praise series- relatively easy settings of familiar texts and tunes, often with congregational parts. This setting of six stanzas of the familiar text, to Coronation, is all of that. The trumpet begins alone, quickly joined by the organ in a stirring introduction to a unison stanza for choir and congregation. (The trumpet then retires until stanza six.) Stanza two, much softer, is for treble voices in unison and it seems to me a slight miscalculation, to have the congregation sing here, particularly without an “upper voices only” direction, but that’s the way it’s printed. Stanzas three to five are choral, set respectively for the men, for SATB, and for men (minore!) with descant. The last stanza (with a tastefully accomplished modulation up a whole step) is for unison voices (with congregation) and dueling trumpet and treble descants.
