Description
This sprightly carol is based on the anonymous text: Nova nova ave fit ex Eva. It is set in a 6/8 meter and the verses throughout are in English. The story of the Annunciation is told musically with changes of meter and harmony all the while retaining the joyous spirit of the opening. Rich harmonies for full choir alternate with phrases for men and women. This carol would be a great addition to the repertory for carol services as well as the Feast of the Annunciation.
From the Composer:
My newer pieces with Paraclete came into being under circumstances considerably different from those of some of my earlier publications. Both O gracious light and the Annunciation Carol owe their creation to the sweeping expanses of the Atlantic Ocean. Quite the opposite atmosphere of a noisy train or car, these were composed in the stillness of the afternoon while gazing out at the water from two different and isolated locations on the northern Atlantic coast all in all a situation far more conducive to creative thought!
