Description
Banners- Organ
Gerald Near
Banners is an extended fanfare for two brass choirs and organ, and contains the familiar Gregorian chant hymn “Vexilla Regis prodeunt” (“The Royal Banners forward go”). The work is scored for four ‘c’ trumpets, two tenor trombones, two bass trombones and organ and may be performed with two choirs together or antiphonally.
“Banners” is appropriate for a festival introit to the worship service or use in the concert hall. Near has used to the fullest the rhythmic and sustaining powers of the brass and the organ, creating with considerable majesty the vision expressed by the original Gregorian chant hymn.
The brass parts are available separately.
