Cradle Song – SATB
Iain Quinn
On a text of poet William Blake, Iain Quinn takes the listener through a sweet spirit of thoughts and words, so descriptive of the infant Jesus. Using close harmony, Quinn creates a sound of mystery and tenderness in a lullaby with the melody mostly in the soprano. This piece would be a lovely addition to an Advent or Christmas carol service.

AAM member Rob Lehman compiled his own text, drawing primarily from Isaac Watts, and set the whole as a lyrical cradle song. The eight-bar melody uses the same harmonization for the first two stanzas then finds variety in a verse alternating between soprano-alto and tenor-bass. An alternate four-part harmonization of the original setting. The music is straight-forward but not simple, and the gently rocking rhythm propels the piece nicely.
