Description
Festival Jubilate
Jon Simsic
Based on the psalm, “O Be Joyful in the Lord,” this celebratory anthem commemorates the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II with an exciting organ part accompanying fanfare-like writing for the choir.
Performance Notes: The Festival Jublilate is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II. As the Queen’s birthday falls in April, the interval of the perfect fourth plays a dominant role thematically, intervallically and harmonically. Likewise, as her birthday falls within Eastertide, the contrasting central section contains the four opening phrases of the Exultet, the wonderful plainsong proclaimed at the Easter Vigil. Lastly, an optional grand proclamation of verse one of God Save the Queen with congregational participation completes the composition.
