Description
This festival anthem uses similar forces as the famous Vaughan Williams setting of this text. Raymond Weidner gives an “American” sound to this setting with its quick modulations and energetic writing for brass. The central section opens with the choir in four parts which is then followed by a solo tenor intoning the text, recitative-style. The work concludes with the exciting music from the opening as well as an “Alleluia” for all forces. Weidner’s experience as an organist shows in the expertly written accompaniment. This work would also be a festive offering for Ascension Day.
