Description
Hark My Beloved
James Callahan
“Hark my Beloved” is a striking setting of this famous text. Set for four-part a cappella choir, Dr. Callahan uses subtly changing rhythms to create flowing lines and to highlight the joyous nature of the text. Particularly moving are the repeated cries of “come away” at the end of each section, each cry remaining harmonically unresolved until the very end. This anthem would be accessible to most choirs as it is set mostly in the central portion of the vocal ranges, and would be especially appropriate for use at a wedding.
