Based on the “The Virgin’s Song” from a Harleian MS (c.1375), Orr’s use of dissonance illuminates Mary’s bittersweet knowledge of what Jesus’ life would be. This anthem, of moderate difficulty, is musically challenging as Orr’s spare texture demands exacting intonation to enhance the tension and release contained within the text.
