This setting of the evening canticles by William Child (1606/7-1697), is in traditional “alternatim” form. Edited by George Guest, the work has been transposed from e minor to g minor, facilitating the singing and more effectively using the color of treble voices at current pitch levels. The organ doubles the choral parts in a continuo fashion, supporting the voices. Guest has also placed suggested dynamics throughout.
