Description
O Divnoe Chudo
Vasilii Polikarpovich Titov
This vocal concerto for the “Feast of the Assumption” (Sticheron for the Dormition of the Virgin), bears Titov’s remarkable musical eloquence. His flexibility of tempo and subtle dynamic shading emanate directly from the text. In accordance with seventeenth-century practice, bar lines are not used. Professor Dolskaya’s musically keen and historically authentic editings, combined with Dr. Antolini’s sensitive transliteration and singing-English translation, give insight into the spiritual and musical heritage of the Russian baroque. Sung in either language, this will make a beautiful addition to a worship service or concert program, expressing the church’s traditional love for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
