O Sun of Justice
William Ferris’ long experience with Gregorian chant is evident in this setting (in English) of the Latin text “Iam Christe sol Jusititiae”. The women and men alternate in the expression of the chant melody, and the organ provides a discreet support that is quite interesting in its own right in that it provides its own “commentary” on the text. Both parts sing together in the last verse as the piece comes to a strong conclusion. This work could serve as an introduction to chant style as well as a moving piece for the Lenten season.
