Description
This elegantly written setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis wears its tradition boldly. In the Magnificat, the melodic lines for the treble voices soar in the best boy-choir tradition, while the other voices have much lyric and harmonic interest. The harmonic style could be characterized as mid-20th century with harmonic modernism that is always at the serice of the text. The Nunc Dimittis is simple, closing with a quiet statement of the Gloria. Dr. Guest, drawing from his skill as an organist, provides an organ accompaniment of great interest and beauty.
