Three Motets Op. 252 – No. 1 O Sacred Head Sore Wounded

One of three motets for various seasons, “O Sacred Head” is a gracious challenge to the more advanced choir. While all voices have parts of great expressiveness, the tenor line leads many of the long phrases. The writing is chromatic and somber in tone, reflecting the spirit of the text. This anthem would be appropriate for Good Friday.
