Description
Two Carols: I. Jesu, fili virginis, II. Jesu, save us all by thy virtue
Randall Giles
Randall Giles is well-known for the unique blend of old and new that he brings to his compositions. This set of two carols follows in this tradition having both a reminiscence of early English carols with a mildly contemporary harmonic style. The first carol “Jesu, fili virginis” sets the Latin text in four parts, while an English text is used for the verses. The verses can be sung as a solo or by the sopranos. The second carol “Jesu, save us all by thy virtue” is in three verses set in a constantly changing meter. The vocal writing is in the middle of the range, retaining the intimacy of expression for these carols. This set should find a welcome place in carol services and concerts.
