Description
In this a cappella setting of Kenneth Patchen’s text, Joel Martinson presents an intimate vision of the nativity of Jesus. It is written in homophonic style, with two choruses and a solo section. The melody is quite simple and uses subdued dynamic levels. Subtle meter changes occur throughout allowing the text to flow freely. A lyric soprano solo over the choir’s quiet humming in the middle verse seems to add a feeling of awe as we stand before the infant king. A recording of this work is available on “Gloriae Dei Cantores” 020, “This World’s Joie”. An order may be placed simultaneously with an octavo purchase.
