Description
Dr. Jones’ setting of the mass text reveals a strong, dramatic vision. The vocal lines are reminiscent of chant, giving the sense of God’s eternal presence. In stark contrast, the organ accompaniment is almost violent in the use of intensely chromatic block chords of sharply dissonant harmonies, as though crying out in distress. The vocal and organ writing are both quite demanding but the effort will be more than rewarded.
