Description
A Carol for Peace: Jesu for Thy Mercy Endless
Randall Giles
Giles’ poignant version of this 16th century English text is set in the traditional English carol form with verses and a “burden” or refrain. The frequent unison lines are laced with chromatic turns of phrase, illuminating the passion inherent in this prayer. Only at the text “Blessed Jesu” does Giles expand the texture vertically to bring special attention to the name of Jesus. Giles also thougthfully works each voice in the middle and upper registers with a stillness of rhythm, adding yet another dimension of serenity to this prayer for peace.
