Description

Na rekakh Vavilonskikh – By the banks of Babylon’s streams
Anthony Antolini

A prolific composer in his lifetime (1767?-1808), Artemiy Vedel never lived to see his works published, due to severe censorship restrictions. Possibly for political reasons, he was declared mentally ill, and imprisoned until his death at the young age of 41. The composer’s own interior suffering seems to embody the sorrow felt by those taken from their homeland, as is expressed in the elongated sinuous vocal line.
