Description
Sing, O Heavens
Richard Busch
This anthem was commissioned for the opening service of the American Guild of Organists Region I Convention in June of 2003 and was well received at that time. Busch has provided a fresh musical version of this great text from Isaiah, opening with a gentle swinging figuration that is sung by women first and then men in imitation. At the text, “for the Lord hath comforted his people,” the music slowly changes into a more reflective mood and the final section is a lovely, rich setting of “Joy and gladness shall be found therein.” The piece ends with an echo of the opening text. this is a fine anthem for choirs of more advanced abilities and would also be appropriate for festival occasions. This piece is well suited for a chamber group rather than a full choir.
