Description
This is an exciting and challenging setting of Psalm 46. It opens with a fanfare-like figure from the organ and a homophonic setting of the text. “Be still and know that I am God,” acts as a refrain throughtout the work, while Jones explores different vocal textures and rhythmic settings to illuminate the text. After a climatic setting of “The Lord of hosts is with us, ” the organ reduces to a low trill and a final statement of “be still. . .” brings the work to a peaceful conclusion. This would be an excellent wrok for a large church or university choir.
