Description
Three brief contrasting works: Salisbury Fanfare, Meditation, and Impromptu are written for warm foundations as well as bright, clear colors. Halls, Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral, writes in an attractive, idiomatic vein: the Fanfare would be a great concert opener, the Meditation has a lovely wandering melody much in the vein of Langlais. Finally, the Impromptu is reminiscent of the scherzo-like pieces of Vierne, but not as difficult! This trilogy would be appropriate for both voluntaries and concert work.
